SuperELITE Encounters

by Tiara Calvert

Recently the SuperELITE Fashion Academy held two spectacular shows featuring the students of SL’s two Top Supermodels. The current reigning Miss Virtual World, Mimmi Boa and the beautiful and elegant former title holder, Isabel Brocco. The photos found on this blog show you the grandeur of the shows, but here now in a series of articles we get an insight into some of the preparations that helped mold some of the models for their time under the spotlights and before the crowds.

How do we define talent? In SL I’m constantly awed by the talents of those around me, from the amazing people who sit behind computers all over the world and make manifest into this medium extraordinary forms of self expression. Recently one such woman, who does just that, arrived to speak to some of SL’s established and upcoming Supermodels as a guest of the SuperELITE Fashion Academy and Mimmi Boa to speak to her ELITE level class.

Elettra Gausman really needs no introduction to anyone who has been around the fashion world in SL for even a short time, but in case you’ve been living under a rock she is the owner and creative genius behind *OC* Orage Creations. Her designs and impact on the Fashion world of SL have been no less then astounding. But it’s not just clothing she fashions us with and in, eyes and skins are also areas where her creativity and talent have found yet another outlet. And when you consider she began to design and create her line only in June of this past year it’s impossible not to be amazed by the talent she displays and excited to see what the future holds.

Not only does Elettra create some of the most notable, fashionable and gorgeous designs to grace the runways and magazine spreads of the Fashion world but she does it when not fulfilling her duties as a real life Doctor. Add to this the fact that she has founded and runs the BeStar Fashion Club, The calendar of which was recently one of the modeling industries most coveted to be in competitions. She runs BeStyle Magazine and if that wasn’t enough is part owner with Annemarie Perenti, of the Best of Italian Sims!

Elettra sat down with the class and her good friend Mimmi Boa to shed light on the fashion industry, share her thoughts on the keys to success in it and some of the experiences she has had. What does one of the grids most prolific, talented and accomplished designers look for in a model?

“They have to check and edit attachments.”

“They have to check and choose right poses to bring out clothes a wrong pose can make bad a wonderful dress.”

I don’t think there was a single model in the room not zooming in on prim eyelashes in that moment.

“You have to choose right shoes and hair, to bring out clothes.”

Details, specifics, attention to styling and to the fit of the clothes adjusted to maximize the creations you are given the honor or displaying, these are the things that will get you noticed by Elettra. And it’s this commitment to effort and details she herself displays. Eletrra hand draws all her dresses on paper first. Allowing her talented vision to take free form in art, long before they ever reach the stores for our eager hands. After, she chooses the textures and real life fabrics she will use before moving the process into Photoshop where her creative genius and artistic talent merge, bringing forth some of the most stunning, original works found in SL. And though for the moment her designs have been for us women she hinted at the possibility of branching out into the world of designs for men as well, and noted her leather pants are uni-sex.

And as for originality, Elettra was careful to stress the importance of that to those fortunate enough to be in attendance during this ELITE level class.

“Originality is very important” She said, stressing that a Model who can find a way to craft an original look and shape will always be ahead of the pack. A sentiment shared by and repeated too those in attendance by Elettra’s good friend and current Miss Virtual World, Mimmi Boa. “The first important thing is "to be unique".

Eletrra continued on that vein expressing that a model should have one “live in” skin that they felt at home with. But, was careful to stress that a model who hopes to be successful needs to have a varied and deep collection of skins for use in whatever situation, style or opportunity she might find her or himself in.

“I'm proud of BeStyle and BeStar, and I try to help models.”

And Eletrra has much to be proud of, when she isn’t helping forge Fashion in SL, she is living her words. She gives a good deal of time to the models in her groups as well as to her friends and customers. Just after the release of her Jolie dress in stores I was fortunate enough to visit and pick it up. I immediately fell in love with it as I have all her designs. In the store ad was hair, perfect for showing the design in the spirit of the namesake the outfit was based on. Unable to find it I sent Eletrra an IM. We had never met or spoken and no doubt I was just another of the countless IM’s she was likely going through that day from a host of models, show producers, customers and others all vying for her time. But in nearly no time at all she was responding to me, telling me exactly where I might find the hair and sharing how much she loved the styles and work of the creator. A true story that shows the caring, helpful nature of a beautiful spirited woman, whose presence, insights and advice in the ELITE level class run by Mimmi Boa was a pure pleasure, and inspiration to all!

The most beautiful eyes in SL.

The title says it all. And I am dead serious. Anyone who has sent stuff my way to be reviewed knows I am very serious about it, and I will only publish reviews that are top notch in my opinion. Well, these eyes are beyond top notch. And I am picky about my eyes, let me tell you. Just as in RL, the eyes are the view to the soul. And my avatar’s soul is the human me. So I expect nothing but sheer beauty when it comes to the eyes.
xxx
Yasmine pointed me in the direction of Dane Tolsen, the creator of these spectacular eyes. I was a bit reluctant at first, because as I stated before, I am so picky about the eyes. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when he invited me to his store, Page 3, which he runs with his SL wife, Jag Voom. The nice, large display with all the eyes stood before me as I stared in wonderment. There are seven shades of eye color: Blue, Blue-green, Brown, Green, Hazel, Turquoise, and Violet. You can then choose from 5 different tones of each shade. If you can’t choose however, don’t fear! Fat packs are available too!

I highly encourage you to visit Page 3 today and check out the gorgeous eyes. You can also find shoes, men’s and women’s casual clothes, lingerie, pose ball animations, and furnishings.

SuperELITE Model Spotlight: An Interview with Phillip Dollinger

SE: Hello Phillip and thank you for agreeing to sit down with me to discuss you and your career as a Male model in SL.

Phillip Dollinger: Hello Tiara, I'm happy to meet you today and to answer to your question about the career of a Male model in SL

SE: What can you tell our readers about yourself and how you first heard of Second Life?

Phillip Dollinger: Well, I live in Paris, France, and I'm 29 years old in RL, and I heard the first time about SL at the end of 2006 by one of my friends, so I've been curious to know this world.
Phillip Dollinger: I've create my first avatar, the one I use all the time in fact

SE: What are some of your favorite aspects of SL?

Phillip Dollinger: to meet some different people, different cultures speaking different language, in fact SL is an easy way to meet people all around the world, to meet the creators, builders, interesting people, that's for me the best aspect of SL

SE: Can you tell us how you first become interested in the Fashion world within SL? And what drew you to want to model?

Phillip Dollinger: The fist time I saw a nice outfit from a great designer I though it was an amazing thing to create a so nice clothe on SL and that this world can permit so much of possibilities in the design, the choice of the fabrics. And about my choice to become a model, it was because I like the fashion world, to model, its sooo interesting and the people in this world are very friendly

SE: So you knew right away you would enjoy modeling, did you have anyone you would say was your inspiration a friend or mentor who you feel has helped you most up to now in your career?

Phillip Dollinger: I met at the beginning of my career some nice friends, as Olyvia and Ivyana, who helped me as instructors for the advanced runway classes, and of course all the staff at SuperElite who were so friendly, a great thanks to Sami and Yasmine

Phillip Dollinger: and of course at you Tiara

SE: Some share a belief that Men face different hurdles and less potential roadblocks in terms of becoming a successful and sought after Model in SL. Many point to the number of really good models overall as one possible reason. What are you feelings on this?

Phillip Dollinger: first it's a fact that we can find a lot of women as models and not so much of male models; it's certainly one of the reasons

Phillip Dollinger: but it's true that all the man models I met were very good, very professional, but as you know my experience of the fashion world in SL is new.
Phillip Dollinger: A model must be the best way for a designer to show their creations, and as models the men must show the best of the creations, as all the models, and they did.

SE: You say you’re relatively new to the Fashion scene but you've had some success, can you share with us some of your accomplishments to date? And what are you most proud of currently?

Phillip Dollinger: Well, I'm really proud to be now one of the [Alta Moda] model and I'll show the creations of this great designer with a lot of enthusiasm. And I've been the winner of the Kmadd contest for the best outfit a few weeks ago, that was great. Of course, I hope to become Model for some other designers very soon, I'll do my best for this.

SE: Congratulations, that is very impressive. You've certainly started off running and those are great honors.

Phillip Dollinger: Thanks Tiara, my deal is to become a good model and to live this passion for the fashion world of SL completely.

SE: What are now your short term and long term goals with regards to Fashion and your modeling?

Phillip Dollinger: My goals are to meet some designers that trust me enough for to give me the opportunity to show their creations in first. I'll make some contests and castings of course in the same time. And for the long term, to become a good model, very professional, hard working, and to make a lot of runways.

Phillip Dollinger: the JCNY contest will be the next one.

SE: Who are a few of your favorite designers?

Phillip Dollinger: I like a lot Redgrave, Argrace, Muism, and Leezu, for some, but I can't to name all here

Phillip Dollinger: some of the SL designers are some genious, really

SE: Lastly, when you aren't busy modeling or attending classes like the SE Elite level course with Mimmi Boa, what does Phillip like to do for fun in SL?

Phillip Dollinger: hehe, that's a good question. I like to go to shop as a lot of us, to see the new clothes, I'm a fashion victim, and for the rest of the time, I'm a builder too in SL
Phillip Dollinger: so a lot of things to do as you see, but the most part of my time is for modeling

SE: Phillip, on behalf of myself, the rest of the SuperELITE family and our readers, I would like to thank you for this chance to learn a bit more about you and wish you continued success, thank you!

Phillip Dollinger: thanks to you Tiara
